Hochul Casts Herself as Protector of “Fearful” Dominican Immigrants While Ignoring Fear on NYC Streets (VIDEO)

WATCH: Hochul Casts Herself as Protector of “Fearful” Dominican Immigrants

Governor Kathy Hochul’s latest international photo-op says everything New Yorkers already know: she is completely disconnected from the state she was elected to govern.

As New York City prepares to inaugurate Zohran Mamdani—a self-described socialist who openly praises Marxist political movements—Hochul is delivering long, self-congratulatory speeches in the Dominican Republic instead of addressing crime, affordability, migration, and collapsing public services at home.

Her priorities are not just misplaced—they are insulting to the millions of New Yorkers who are desperate for leadership.

During her speech in Santo Domingo, Hochul praised murals, toured museums, talked about food, reminisced about parades, and announced multi-million-dollar cultural projects.

Meanwhile, back in New York, residents are fleeing, businesses are closing, and families are drowning in some of the highest taxes and housing costs in the country.

When Hochul claims she is “so proud to represent one million Dominicans who call New York home,” she ignores the reality that those same New Yorkers need safer streets, lower costs, and a functioning city—not another ceremonial foreign visit.

The governor framed her trip as a mission to “strengthen ties” and “build resiliency,” even announcing a $12.5 million cultural center in Manhattan and new trade initiatives with the Dominican government.

But nothing in her speech addressed the crises facing New Yorkers: the migrant surge overwhelming neighborhoods, the rising violence on subways, or the economic toll on small businesses facing record-breaking regulations.

Instead of dealing with those issues, Hochul talked about parades, statues, and drone technology.

The disconnect became even clearer when she positioned herself as a protector of Dominican immigrants “fearful of going to their churches, schools, and workplaces.”

The people facing fear in New York today are everyday residents—of every background—who feel unsafe in a city where criminals are released without consequences and police officers are restricted from doing their jobs.

Hochul’s fixation on symbolic gestures, rather than real public-safety solutions, displays precisely why New Yorkers have lost trust in state leadership.

Her speech also ignored the political shift happening back home. New York City is on the verge of a socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani—an activist-politician who aligns himself with Marxist parties and openly pushes far-left economic and policing policies.

While New York stands on the brink of a radical political transformation, Hochul took the time to speak about heritage tourism and trade missions.

Hochul’s foreign speeches do not change the fact that New York is losing residents faster than any state in America, its economy is weakening, and its cities are becoming unlivable under progressive management.

Kathy Hochul may enjoy the applause abroad, but New Yorkers need a governor who shows up at home.
