A Wisconsin woman is facing a lengthy prison sentence following an unforgivable act of betrayal, but she has a ready-made excuse for her actions that does not add up.

As WMTV reported on Monday, 32-year-old Jamica Mills shot and killed her friend, 26-year-old beloved pharmacy student Ariel Spillner, on November 4 after spending the evening celebrating Mills’s birthday in Milwaukee.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by the outlet, officers arrived at the residence around 9:40 p.m. and found Mills lying on her back with a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

Spillner was found unconscious and facedown with a gunshot wound to her left shoulder. She was later pronounced dead.

A combative Mills told police that the shooting was an accident, claiming that she feared Spillner would stab her after the two had smoked marijuana together.

But there are multiple inconsistencies in her story, as noted by WTMJ:

Prosecutors say Mills allegedly claimed not to remember what happened, and that the last thing she remembered was waking up in the living room and then being at the hospital.

Mills also claimed she and Spillner were talking about Spillner’s boyfriend when she heard a shot and “felt a shot,” initially claiming she thought Spillner shot her first.

However, according to the complaint, Mills later allegedly admitted to retrieving a gun from her bedroom after becoming paranoid that Spillner would stab her after she mentioned that Spillner was “supposed to cut her dog’s hair with scissors.”

After returning to the living room, Mills allegedly admitted to shooting Spillner after she made a hand motion, despite telling investigators she didn’t see Spillner with scissors and that she hadn’t made threats toward her, according to the complaint.

Mills’ sister-in-law revealed to investigators she was in the home at the time of the shooting and recalled hearing someone say, “**** you tripping,” before two gunshots rang out. This suggests that the shooting was done in anger, not paranoia.

Spillner was in her final year as a pharmacy student at Concordia University and wanted to relocate to Florida to begin her career after graduation.

‘She was literally the best person you could ask for as a friend, as a sister, as a daughter,” her sister Courtney Spillner told WMTV. “She was the best to everyone. She would be there for anyone, no matter what you needed, when you needed it.”

“The last thing we said to each other was that we loved each other, so I am forever holding that memory close,” Courtney Spillner added.

Mills has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide and use of a dangerous weapon. She faces up to 60 years</> in prison if convicted.

Mills’ bond was set at $150,000 according to court records obtained by WTMJ. She is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 17 for a preliminary hearing.
