German Chancellor Merz, Under Pressure from a Surging Rightwing AfD, Scrambles to React to Mass Migration, Wants to ‘Repatriate’ Syrian ‘Asylum Seekers’

Merz will try to ‘repatriate’ Syrian illegal migrants.

Merz on immigration reform: too little, too late.

In Germany, Chancellor Friedrich Merz is struggling to get some traction in tackling the scourge of unchecked mass migration, which is fraying the German social fabric as badly as any other European country.

In the runup to a series of state elections next year, Merz needs to at least pretend to be doing something about it, to try to react to AfD’s surging poll numbers.

So, Merz is now saying that Syrian illegal migrants ‘no longer have grounds for asylum in Germany now the civil war in their country is over’.

Reuters reported:

“Germany was the EU country that took in the largest number of refugees from the 14-year-long Syrian civil war due to former Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open-door policy, with around one million Syrians living in the country today.”

Merz’s cabinet insist ‘the situation has changed’ after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government and the end of the war.

Reuters’ report – always rooting for the migrants, never for the citizens – is already alerting that ‘forcible returns to Syria would face steep legal challenges’.

“’There are now no longer any grounds for asylum in Germany, and therefore we can also begin with repatriations’, Merz said late on Monday, adding that he expected many Syrians to return of their own accord to rebuild the country.

‘Without these people, rebuilding will not be possible. Those in Germany who then refuse to return to the country can, of course, also be deported in the near future’.”

AfD’s Alice Weidel has a ‘no-nonsense’ immigration plan, and voters want that!

“The far-right Alternative for Germany has surged ahead of Merz’s conservatives in opinion polls ahead of five state elections next year that could give the AfD its first state premier.”

The party has campaigned on an ‘remigration’ platform, promising to send illegals back to their countries.

“Migration has consistently topped polls about Germans’ top concerns in recent years, and some mainstream conservative strategists believe only a hardline asylum policy can counter the AfD. Others advocate challenging the AfD more robustly.”
