In the aftermath of King Charles stripping his brother Andrew Mountbatten Windsor of his Prince title and evicting him of his home of twenty years at Royal Lodge, Britain seems to be primed for more.
In Parliament, at the House of Commons, members are demanding that failing Prime Minister Keir Starmer follow the King’s example by stripping former US ambassador Lord Peter Mandelson of his peerage over his deep links to Jeffrey Epstein.
The Telegraph reported:
“The removal of titles from Andrew Mountbatten Windsor on Thursday sparked renewed calls from Labour MPs for Lord Mandelson to lose his honor.
The King took the unprecedented step following weeks of allegations surrounding Mountbatten Windsor’s friendship with Epstein, the pedophile financier. These included the revelation that he had remained in touch with the pedophile longer than he had admitted.”
Labour MPs urged the Prime Minister to take similar action against Lord Mandelson, who was sacked from the role of US ambassador over his friendship with Epstein.
“The Labour peer was fired from his role in Washington in September after leaked emails revealed he had sent messages of support to Epstein as he faced jail for sex offences.
He consoled and counselled Epstein and encouraged him to fight for early release, telling him ‘your friends stay with you and love you’.”
Lord Mandelson remains a member of the party and a peer in the House of Lords.
“For Lord Mandelson to lose the whip, the Government would need to pass an Act of Parliament. The last time that this occurred was in 1917 on the eve of the First World War.”
Stephen Flynn, SNP leader argued that ‘whether Keir Starmer likes it or not’, Peter Mandelson is deeply implicated in the Epstein scandal, saying that ‘the allegations may be different, but the consequences must be the same’.
“Lord Mandelson needs to give three months’ notice to the Labour whips in the House of Lords should he want to return to Parliament. He has not yet done so.”
