President Trump opened his cabinet meeting on Thursday by signing two proclamations honoring “legendary” Norse Viking Leif Erikson and the “legendary” Christopher Columbus, who the proclamation describes as “the original American hero, a giant of Western civilization, and one of the most gallant and visionary men to ever walk the face of the earth.”
Leif Erikson Day is today, October 9, and Christopher Columbus Day is on Monday, October 13.
No longer will Columbus’s memory be adulterated with so-called “Indigenous Peoples’ Day.”
“In other words, we’re calling it Columbus today,” the President remarked while signing his proclamation, leading to cheers and applause from the whole room, including the press, he said.
“That was the press that broke out in applause. I’ve never seen that happen before. The press actually broke out in applause,” he said, laughing.
He continued, “Good. Columbus Day, we’re back. Columbus Day, we’re back, Italians. We love the Italians.”

Trump’s Columbus Day proclamation strongly condemns the radical left’s recent attempts to erase the history of the United States of America and Columbus’s historic contributions in discovering the New World. “Christopher Columbus was a true American hero, and every citizen is eternally indebted to his relentless determination,” it states.
One section of the memo reads,
Outrageously, in recent years, Christopher Columbus has been a prime target of a vicious and merciless campaign to erase our history, slander our heroes, and attack our heritage. Before our very eyes, left-wing radicals toppled his statues, vandalized his monuments, tarnished his character, and sought to exile him from our public spaces. Under my leadership, those days are finally over — and our Nation will now abide by a simple truth: Christopher Columbus was a true American hero, and every citizen is eternally indebted to his relentless determination.
The Proclamation also credits Columbus for “paving the way for the ultimate triumph of Western civilization” on July 4, 1776, less than three centuries after he discovered America.
“This Columbus Day, more than 500 years since Columbus arrived in the New World, we follow his example, we echo his resolve, and we offer our gratitude for his life of valor and grit. Above all, we commit to restoring a Nation that once again dares to tame the unknown, honors our rich cultural inheritance, and offers rightful praise to our Creator above,” it continues.
In April, President Trump vowed to bring Columbus Day “back from the ashes” after “the Democrats did everything possible to destroy Christopher Columbus, his reputation.”
“They tore down his Statues, and put up nothing but “WOKE,” or even worse, nothing at all!” he said in a statement. “You’ll be happy to know, Christopher is going to make a major comeback. I am hereby reinstating Columbus Day under the same rules, dates, and locations, as it has had for all of the many decades before!”
