JUST IN: Seven Dead, 37 Injured After Weekend of Violence in Chicago as Mayor Pushes Back Against Trump’s Plan to Send Federal Agents

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson

Shootings over the weekend in Chicago left seven dead and 37 injured as President Trump prepares to send federal forces to the Windy City and faces pushback from Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

The shootings reportedly occurred in multiple unrelated incidents, and in most cases, no suspects were taken into custody.

This comes after six people were killed and 27 were injured, with victims as young as five years old, in shootings the weekend before.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump has stated that he is considering the deployment of the National Guard and federal agents in high-crime cities such as Baltimore, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco.

On Friday, it was revealed that 200 Homeland Security Officials will be deployed in Chicago as soon as this week and will potentially stay for the entire month of September.

The enforcement operations will be centered on arresting illegal aliens in the sanctuary state of Illinois, but the National Guard could be used to quell violent rioters, as done in Los Angeles, or to deter crime, as we are seeing in Washington, DC.

However, local leaders are taking a stand against Trump’s attempt to stop crime and violence.

Per Fox:

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order on Saturday prohibiting local police from working with their federal counterparts.

“This executive order makes it emphatically clear that this president is not going to come in and deputize our police department,” Johnson said at a news conference with other city leaders.

The mayor’s order affirms that Chicago police officers will continue to enforce state and local laws, but will not work with the National Guard or federal agents on patrols, arrests, immigration enforcement or other law enforcement actions.

“We will protect our Constitution, we will protect our city, and we will protect our people,” he said. “We do not want to see tanks in our streets. We do not want to see families ripped apart. We do not want grandmothers thrown into the back of unmarked vans. We don’t want to see homeless Chicagoans harassed or disappeared by federal agents.”
