Mike Pence decided to emerge from hiding this week to slam President Trump’s approach to trade and predictably got blown up on social media.
As The Gateway Pundit’s Jordan Conradson reported, Trump reinstated his tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China this week under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Tariffs were temporarily suspended last month during negotiations to secure the border and stop the flow of fentanyl.
Trump told reporters on Monday that there is “no room left for Mexico or for Canada,” citing the “vast amounts of fentanyl” that has come into the U.S. On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced reciprocal tariffs while insulting Trump.
Trump is taking these actions to bring jobs back to America, stop drugs from flowing into America, and pressure these countries who are tariffing our businesses to death.
As CNBC reported, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent responded to criticism from the left and RINOs by defending the Trump Administration during a speech to the Economic Club in New York on Thursday by pointing out that access to cheap goods was not what the American Dream was about.
“Access to cheap goods is not the essence of the American dream,” Bessent explained. “The American Dream is rooted in the concept that any citizen can achieve prosperity, upward mobility, and economic security. For too long, the designers of multilateral trade deals have lost sight of this.”
For no good reason, Pence emerged from hiding to advocate for cheap labor and slam the Trump Administration’s approach to tariffs.
“Actually, @SecScottBessent, it is. Tariffs are good as a means to bring nations like China to the table,” Pence wrote.
“But free trade lowers the costs of goods and improves the quality of life for every American,” he added. “Let’s Pursue Free Trade with Free Nations and Revive the American Dream.”
