Concerns Intensify as Ailing Pope Francis Has Two New Acute Respiratory Crises and Is Back on the Ventilator

Francis has been fighting for his life in the hospital for 18 days.

The 18-day hospital stay of Pope Francis is getting ever-more dramatic as today (3) the Vatican announced that the Pontiff had suffered two new episodes of acute respiratory crises and was again put on ‘noninvasive mechanical ventilation.’

Associated Press reported:

“Francis had inhaled ‘copious’ amounts of mucus in another setback in what has become a more than two-week battle to overcome a complex respiratory infection and pneumonia.

In a late update, the Vatican said the episodes were caused by a ‘significant accumulation’ of mucus in his lungs and bronchial spasms. ‘Two bronchoscopies were performed with the need for aspiration of copious secretions,” the Vatican said’.”

The latest on Pope Francis from the Vatican, and the news is not good. The Holy Father suffered two episodes of acute respiratory failure, requiring two bronchoscopies and is on mechanical ventilation. Let us pray for the Holy Father:

Francis: rumors of resignation and prayers for his health.

Francis remains ‘alert’, oriented and cooperated with medical personnel, but ‘the prognosis remained guarded’, which means Doctors are uncertain about the patient’s recovery.

This comes after Pope Francis appeared to be doing well today, even issuing a new message from the hospital after what has been ‘the longest absence of his 12-year papacy’.

“Francis, 88, denounced the ‘progressive irrelevance’ of international organizations to combat war as he remained at Rome’s Gemelli hospital [up until then] in stable condition. He was up, had breakfast and was receiving therapies after sleeping ‘well all night long’, the Vatican said.”
