President Trump on Sunday said that he plans to give every American $2,000 tariff dividends in a post on Truth Social.
The President previously said he wants to give Americans a “rebate” because of the trillions of dollars in revenue from tariffs.
Trump has also suggested that his External Revenue Service, which he announced on January 14, 2025, to “collect our Tariffs, Duties, and all Revenue that come from Foreign sources,” will “completely eliminate” income taxes for “people making less than $200,000 a year.”
This comes as the Supreme Court weighs the constitutionality of tariffs after the Court of International Trade in New York said President Trump exceeded his authority to impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977.
The Supreme Court, which has handed Trump wins in nearly every case challenging his policies, however, questioned the President’s authority to impose sweeping tariffs under the Act this week.
Trump criticized the courts this morning, questioning how the President of the United States could be allowed to “stop ALL TRADE with a Foreign Country” but not to “put a simple Tariff on a Foreign Country, even for purposes of NATIONAL SECURITY.” He continued, “Businesses are pouring into the USA ONLY BECAUSE OF TARIFFS.”
“HAS THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT NOT BEEN TOLD THIS??? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???” he said.
So, let’s get this straight??? The President of the United States is allowed (and fully approved by Congress!) to stop ALL TRADE with a Foreign Country (Which is far more onerous than a Tariff!), and LICENSE a Foreign Country, but is not allowed to put a simple Tariff on a Foreign Country, even for purposes of NATIONAL SECURITY. That is NOT what our great Founders had in mind! The whole thing is ridiculous! Other Countries can Tariff us, but we can’t Tariff them??? It is their DREAM!!! Businesses are pouring into the USA ONLY BECAUSE OF TARIFFS. HAS THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT NOT BEEN TOLD THIS??? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???President DJT
