Jack Ciattarelli appears on FOX News – Screencap of Twitter/X video.

On Tuesday, New Jersey Republican gubernatorial nominee Jack Ciattarelli reaffirmed his plans to sue his opponent, Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ), over her claim that Ciattarelli contributed to the deaths of “tens of thousands of New Jerseyans” during the opioid crisis.

During the final gubernatorial debate between the two candidates in early October, Sherrill responded to a question about bringing jobs to New Jersey.

Sherrill answered by first questioning Ciattarelli’s background as a businessman and then further alleging he made millions by ‘publishing propaganda’ for the opioid industry.

Sherrill then uttered what Ciattarelli says is a ‘baseless, reckless lie,’ alleging,  “I think you’re trying to divert from the fact that you killed tens of thousands of people by printing your misinformation, your propaganda.

On Tuesday, Ciattarelli appeared on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” and said of Sherrill’s comments, “It’s a baseless, reckless lie.”

Fox News reports,“I just got approval yesterday from the regulators that we can go ahead with our lawsuit immediately, which is what I plan to do. … We’re not going to tolerate that kind of lie. The whole campaign has been based on a stack of lies.”

On Monday, New Jersey Election Law Commission officials unanimously determined that Ciattarelli can sue Sherrill without flouting state campaign finance laws.

The New York Post reports:

Republican Jack Ciattarelli got the go-ahead to slap a defamation suit against Democratic foe Mikie Sherrill over her stunning accusations that he killed tens of thousands of people while profiting off the opioid epidemic.

New Jersey Election Law Commission officials unanimously determined Monday that Ciattarelli can sue Sherrill (D-NJ) without flouting state campaign finance laws.

“Mr. Ciattarelli  believes that he was defamed during the gubernatorial debate. He seeks to pursue that claim for defamation against Mikie Sherrill,” Ciattarelli’s campaign attorney, Mark Sheridan said during a Monday hearing, Gothamist reported.

“He does not intend to use any campaign funds or any matching funds. It’s solely his own funds.”

Watch:

The Gateway Pundit reported that late last week, Ciattarelli scored a stunning wave of endorsements, with nearly a dozen major Democrat officials now publicly backing his campaign.

Among those endorsing Ciattarelli, according to Shore News Network, are

  • North Bergen Mayor and former State Senator Nick Sacco
  • Dover Mayor Jim Dodd
  • Garfield Mayor Everett E. Garnto Jr.
  • Branchville Mayor Anthony Frank
  • Branchville Councilman Jeffrey Lewis
  • North Bergen Commissioner Allen Pascual
  • Hudson County Commissioner Director Anthony Vainieri Jr.
  • West New York Commissioner Marcos Arroyo
  • Former Assemblyman Jamel Holley
  • Former Newark Councilman Oscar James
  • Former West New York Mayor and Assemblyman Sal Vega
  • Former West New York Commissioner Alberto Rodriguez

By contrast, Sherrill has been embattled by scandals, including reports that Sherrill was blocked from walking with her graduating class at the US Naval Academy (USNA) after being caught up in a cheating scandal.

Sherrill is also under fire for accusations involving nepotism regarding two of her children being appointed to USNA in the same year.
