Trump’s Second State Visit to the UK Kicks off Today, and He Is Reportedly Expected to ‘Go Easy’ on Failing PM Starmer That’s ‘On the Ropes’

Starmer is hoping Trump’s visit can offer him a break on his string of scandals.

Donald J. Trump is the first US President to make two state visits to the United Kingdom.

As he arrives today in London, he is reportedly expected to ‘go easy’ on embattled Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who he understands is ‘on the ropes’.

The visit will kick off as Starmer is insisting not to resign over his appointment (and firing) of Jeffrey Epstein’s ‘best pal’ Lord Mandelson friendship as US Ambassador.

The Telegraph reported:

“Sir Keir appeared to blame his advisers, saying that ‘in retrospect, of course I think it would be better if the detailed allegations that have been made in relation to Peter had been put in front of me before PMQs’. […] Asked if he would resign if the party ‘felt it was necessary’, the Prime Minister said: ‘No, because I’m absolutely clear what the task is in front of me’.”

Mandelson (left) has turned into Starmer’s (right) worse political crisis, so far.

A mere hours before Trump arrives, the failing prime minister will face further three hours of debate in the House of Commons.

“Ahead of the trip, two former US officials well-connected with the White House told The Telegraph that Mr. Trump was likely to go easy on Sir Keir, given the domestic political pressure.

One former official said: ‘This trip will be about the splendor of Windsor Castle, inspecting the troops, the big banquet. This is a big deal for him. And the plan is to keep it about that’. They added that Mr. Trump had acute political antennae for allies in trouble and knew that Starmer ‘was on the ropes’.”

While the UK’s push for censorship is a constant worry for the US administration, the topic will not necessarily be on the agenda.

Today, Trump is expected to join the King for a gun salute and carriage procession at Windsor Castle.

“He will also lay a wreath at the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II, before a state banquet, where he and the King are expected to deliver speeches.

Thursday offers the potential for awkward questions. Mr. Trump and Sir Keir are expected to appear together at a press conference at the end of the visit, before the president flies home.”

‘The trip to the UK is going to be incredible.’
