Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent sent the Internet into a frenzy after delivering an incredible line while silencing one of the most notorious Sunday morning talk show hosts on television.

Bessent appeared as a guest on “Meet the Press” on Sunday to discuss the jobs market and the impact of tariffs. During their segment, Host Kristen Welker unwisely started by criticizing Trump’s economic handling compared to previous months, including those under the Biden regime. But Bessent had his facts in order and pointed out that the only people who really thrived under Biden were illegals.

Not a good moment for the “Meet the Press” host.

HOLY CRAP! NBC’s Kristen Welker thought she knew more about the economy than Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent – he put her in her place.

BESSENT: The new jobs are going to either native-born or legal Americans. Most of the jobs created under the Biden admin went to aliens!… pic.twitter.com/Q6wx7O1zXb

BESSENT: What we are seeing is that the jobs that are being created are going to either native-born or legal Americans. Most of the jobs created under the Biden administration went to illegal aliens.

WELKER: Well, and there would be a debate over the fact that they went to…

BESSENT: No, no, no. That’s the fact.

However, the interview got even worse for Welker when she tried to scold Bessent again on the economy by quoting Goldman Sachs and other multinational corporations. Bessent, though, shut down Welker with a line for the ages regarding his successful dealings with Goldman Sachs.

Welker then moved on.

BESSENT: Kristen, if things are so bad, why was the GDP 3.3%? Why is the stock market at a new high? You’re quoting big companies, but the big company index, the S&P, is at a new high.

WELKER: Hasbro says they’re going to have to increase their prices. Goldman Sachs says 86% of the tariff revenue collected so far has been paid by American businesses and consumers. So, just bottom line, Mr. Secretary, do you acknowledge that these tariffs are a tax on American consumers?

BESSENT (smiling): No, I don’t.

WELKER: “Even though you have companies saying they are going to have to increase prices, and given the fact that 86% of these tariffs so far have been paid by Americans?

BESSENT: No, no, no. You’re quoting Goldman Sachs. I made a good career trading against Goldman Sachs.

WELKER: Oh, ok.
