JUST IN: DC Attorney General Sues Trump to Stop National Guard Deployment – Claims Troops “Put Public Safety at Risk”

by September 4, 2025

DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb

Washington, DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb on Thursday filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration, arguing that the deployment of National Guard troops in the capital is unlawful and harmful to public safety.

The lawsuit names President Trump, the Department of Defense, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the United States Army, Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, the Department of Justice, Attorney General Pam Bondi, the US Marshals Service, and US Marshals Service Director Gadyaces Serralta as defendants.

“Over 2,200 National Guard troops from seven states and the District of Columbia are currently patrolling the streets of the District dressed in military fatigues, carrying rifles, and driving armored vehicles,” the complaint notes, arguing that the deployment “violates both the Home Rule Act and a congressionally approved compact governing the interstate mobilization of state National Guard troops.”

Schwalb further argues that the President does not have the authority to command out-of-state National Guard troops from the seven states that contributed assistance.

This comes days after DC Mayor Muriel Bowser signed an executive order for local law enforcement to work with federal officials indefinitely, bypassing the DC Home Rule Act’s Congressional approval requirement for the President to federalize the police for more than 30 days.

Bowser previously admitted that Trump’s crackdown on crime in the city was helpful and effective. “Neighborhoods feel safer and are safer, so this surge has been important to us,” Bowser admitted.

Since Trump took over the capital and deployed these troops, law-abiding citizens can now walk around the capital freely without fear of being attacked, robbed, or harassed by drugged-out bums. Militarized streets work and make the city walkable, even at night! Clearly, Schwalb is unhappy that the crime problem can be solved so easily.

The leftist Attorney General announced the move on X this morning in a statement filled with leftist talking points, referring to the deployment as a “forced military occupation” that “threatens our democracy.”

He laughably claims without evidence that the deployment “undermines public safety” and “hurts DC’s economy,” including industries like restaurants, hotels, and tourism.

NEW: We are suing to block the unlawful deployment of National Guard troops to DC.

Armed soldiers should not be policing American citizens on American soil.

The forced military occupation of the District of Columbia violates our local autonomy and basic freedoms. It must end.

This also comes as over 1,800 criminals have been taken off the streets by federal agencies since President Trump began his law enforcement crackdown early last month, according to FBI Director Kash Patel.

All federal partners are now at over 1,800 arrests under @POTUS @realDonaldTrump initiative to clean up Washington, DC.

Latest from @FBI September 3-4:

-28 arrests involving FBI personnel
-12 gun recoveries
-10 drug seizures
-80 individuals arrested by federal partners total
