Disgraced ‘comedian’ Stephen Colbert is getting quite a job downgrade after losing his late-night show last month.
As Vulture reported, Colbert is having to settle for a guest ‘star’ turn on CBS’s popular dramedy, Elsbeth, which stars actress Carrie Preston. He will appear as the host of a late-night talk show called Way Late with Scotty Bristol.
The outlet notes that it’s unclear when Colbert agreed to ‘star’ in the “The Good Wife” spinoff, but he told Elsbeth co-star Wendell Pierce on The Late Show in February that he wanted to appear on the show at some point. Pierce said he would try to make it happen.
In a karmic twist of fate, he may appear as a corpse, presumably after his character is killed on the show. If this happens, Colbert only has himself to blame because he said that was his ‘dream’ role on Elsbeth.
It’s also possible he appears as the murderer or a suspect.
Vulture reveals that it’s likely Colbert will appear in the third season opener of the Preston–led series. It is scheduled to premiere on a special night — Sunday, October 12, in contrast to its usual Thursday night airing.
This is reportedly to take advantage of an NFL Sunday lead-in.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that CBS canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last month for financial reasons, especially given the low ratings. The show will end after the next season in May 2026.
Colbert expressed confusion over being fired for financial reasons, pointing out that The Late Show is currently No. 1 in ratings and suggesting an ulterior motive.
“Over the weekend, someone at CBS followed up their gracious press release, followed up with a gracious anonymous leak saying, ‘They pulled the plug on our show because of losses pegged between $40 million and $50 million a year.” $40 million is a big number. I could see us losing $24 million, but where would Paramount have possibly spent the other $16 million?” Colbert said, referencing Paramount’s decision to settle a lawsuit with the Trump Administration over the editing of Kamala Harris’s 60 Minutes interview.
“Over the weekend, it sunk in that they’re killing off our show, but they made one mistake: They left me alive. And now, for the next 10 months, the gloves are off,” Colbert boasted.
He also lashed out at Trump.
“How dare you, sir?! Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?” Colbert fired back. “Go f**k yourself!”
