Spanish Socialist PM Pedro Sánchez APOLOGIZES for the Multiple Corruption Scandals in His Government, but Refuses To Call for Early Elections

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez and his wife Begoña Gómez are surrounded by corruption allegations and investigations.

You know things are getting bad when even leftist-Globalist outlets like Reuters or Politico are forced to report on the multiple corruption scandals involving the Socialists in Spain.

Yesterday (12), Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez asked citizens ‘for forgiveness’ after one of his closest allies quit his posts over graft allegations.

Sanchez went as far as saying that his Socialist Party would ‘undergo an external audit’ – all the while rejecting the opposition’s calls for an early election.

Reuters reported:

“’We should not have trusted him (Santos Cerdan)’, a somber-looking Sanchez told a news briefing at his Socialist Party’s headquarters, acknowledging that the accusations against him [Cerdán] were very serious.

With various scandals swirling around his minority government, the case poses one of the biggest threats yet to the survival of the country’s fragile leftist coalition government. Sanchez said, however, most of the attacks on his government were not grounded in reality.”

Watch: 100,000 Spaniards out in force protesting against corruption in the Socialist government.

Politico reported:

“’I appear here to apologize to the citizens and supporters of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party’, Sánchez said in a televised press conference at the party’s headquarters in Madrid.

The extraordinary public apology came hours after the Spanish press reported that the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard national police force has evidence linking the Socialist Party’s third-highest ranking member, Santos Cerdán, with the reception of kickbacks.

[…] ‘This morning we have been able to know the content of the report … evidence has appeared, and it is clearly serious, very serious’, Sánchez said. ‘Unfortunately, corruption does exist in this world, but there must be zero tolerance when it occurs’.”

Pedro Sanchez is surrounded by corruption scandals.

This is a non-exhaustive list of the current corruption scandals in Spain:

  • Begoña Gómez, wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, has been under investigation since April 2024 for alleged influence peddling and corruption. She is accused of using her position to influence government contract awards.
  • Begoña Gómez is accused of signing recommendation letters in 2020 that helped businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés secure a €7.7 million public contract.
  • Pedro Sánchez’s brother, David Sánchez, faces charges related to money concealment.
  • Former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos and his advisor Koldo García are investigated for securing contracts for medical companies in exchange for commissions.
  • Santos Cerdán, senior Socialist Party official and close ally of Sánchez, is implicated in a corruption case involving alleged kickbacks for public contract awards.
  • Businessman Víctor de Aldama is under investigation for paying commissions to government members for public works contracts.
