Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts Takes Veiled Shot at Trump AGAIN in Rare Public Appearance, Says Rule of Law “Endangered”

Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts took a veiled shot at President Trump on Monday during remarks at Georgetown Law.

This is the third time that Roberts has publicly rebuked Trump in recent months.

Roberts didn’t call out Trump by name but he decried ad hominem attacks against justices.

“The court has obviously made mistakes throughout its history, and those should be criticized, so long as it is in terms of the decision, really, and not ad hominem against the justices. I just think that doesn’t do any good,” Roberts said, according to Politico.

Politico reported:

Chief Justice John Roberts described the rule of law as “endangered” and warned against “trashing the justices,” but speaking in Washington Monday he didn’t point fingers directly at President Donald Trump or his allies for publicly excoriating judges who’ve ruled against aspects of Trump’s agenda.

“The notion that rule of law governs is the basic proposition,” Roberts said during an appearance at Georgetown Law. “Certainly as a matter of theory, but also as a matter of practice, we need to stop and reflect every now and then how rare that is, certainly rare throughout history, and rare in the world today.”

Last Wednesday evening Roberts rebuked President Trump during a fireside chat in New York.

Speaking at a fireside chat to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the US District Court for the Western District of New York, Justice Roberts lashed out at Trump for his calls to impeach radical judges.

“Well, I’ve already spoken to that and, you know, impeachment is not how you register disagreement with decisions,” Roberts said in front of hundreds of judges and lawyers.

“The judiciary is a co-equal branch of government, separate from the others, with the authority to interpret the Constitution as law and strike down, obviously, acts of Congress or acts of the president,” he said.

“Its job is to obviously decide cases, but in the course of that, check the excesses of Congress or of the executive, and that does require degree of independence,” Roberts added.

Roberts spoke on the ‘independence’ of the judiciary.

“In our Constitution, judges and the judiciary is a co-equal branch of government, separate from the others with the authority to interpret the Constitution as law and strike down, obviously, acts of Congress or acts of, of the president. and that innovation doesn’t work if it’s not the judiciary is not independent,” Roberts said.

President Trump previously called for Judge James Boasberg to be impeached after he ordered planes deporting criminal Venezuelan aliens to turn around.

“This Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge, a troublemaker and agitator who was sadly appointed by Barack Hussein Obama, was not elected President – He didn’t WIN the popular VOTE (by a lot!), he didn’t WIN ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, he didn’t WIN 2,750 to 525 Counties, HE DIDN’T WIN ANYTHING! I WON FOR MANY REASONS, IN AN OVERWHELMING MANDATE, BUT FIGHTING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION MAY HAVE BEEN THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOR THIS HISTORIC VICTORY. I’m just doing what the VOTERS wanted me to do. This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!! WE DON’T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” Trump said on Truth Social.

In March Chief Justice Roberts said Trump call for impeaching judges is “not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision.”

“For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose,” Roberts said in a rare statement earlier this year.
