White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt lectured a reporter who couldn’t seem to grasp Trump’s tariff strategy.
“Why would any of our allies work with us to isolate China in a trade war if we’re treating friend and foe alike?” a reporter asked Karoline Leavitt.
“You’ll have to talk to our allies who are reaching out to us. The phones are ringing off the hooks. They’ve made it very clear they need the United States of America. They need our markets. They need our consumer base,” Leavitt said.

On Tuesday, in response to Trump’s original 104% tariff on China, the Chinese government announced it would retaliate by increasing tariffs on American products from 34% to 84%.
President Trump upped the ante and announced higher tariffs on China on Wednesday.
Trump announced he is immediately raising tariffs on China to 125%. At the same time he put a 90-day pause on tariffs and lowered reciprocal tariffs on more than 75 countries.
It’s virtually the world against China now as President Trump uses the tariff war to crush China.
“Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets, I am hereby raising the Tariff charged to China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately. At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable. Conversely, and based on the fact that more than 75 Countries have called Representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, to negotiate a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs, and that these Countries have not, at my strong suggestion, retaliated in any way, shape, or form against the United States, I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump said on Truth Social.
The Dow Jones immediately jumped more than 2,800 points and the Nasdaq surged more than 10% on Wednesday afternoon.
“The S&P 500 skyrocketed 9.1%, on pace for its biggest one-day gain in five years. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 2,861 points, or 7.4%, also its biggest advance since 2020. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 11.7%, its largest one-day jump in decades,” CNBC reported.
“Up 2,500 points. Nobody has ever heard of it! Gotta be a record,” Trump said on Wednesday in DC.
