Elon Musk, the tech mogul, Trump ally, and driving force behind the cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has voiced his support for a new policy introduced by Hungary’s government under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, which will exempt mothers from income tax, offering them significant financial relief.

Orbán, who’s led Hungary for 14 consecutive years now, hailed the new policy as “the largest tax cut in Europe and the entire Western world, declaring in a post to social media that Hungary is “making history by building the world’s first family-centered economy.”

Hungary is making history with the largest tax cut in Europe & the entire Western world!

We are building the world’s first family-centred economy:

The new policy, announced during Prime Minister Orbán’s annual State of the Nation address on Hungary’s National Day, aims to boost the country’s birthrate and eliminate the need for what the UN refers to as “replacement migration.”

It also offers significant income tax relief, exempting mothers with one child from income tax until they turn 30, and grants lifetime income tax exemptions to mothers with two or more children.

The newly announced initiative builds upon an existing policy that provides lifelong income tax exemptions to mothers with four or more children.

Musk responded to Orbán’s announcement on X, formerly Twitter, endorsing the policy in a short but impactful response. “Good idea,” he wrote in a retweet of a post by the Visegrád 24 account.

As a father of several children, Musk has consisently argued that the true crisis facing the globe—and more specifically the Western world—isn’t overpopulation but the precipitous drop in birth rates.

The tech mogul has consistently urged governments worldwide to implement policies that tackle population decline. Contrary to the views of left-liberal globalist thinkers like Yuval Harari, Musk argues that technological and economic progress rely on stable population growth.

So, it’s no surprise that Musk is fully supporting Hungary’s bold initiative.

The law, more specifically, seeks to lift up single mothers, whose poverty rates is far higher than other families.

Anna Nagy, head of Hungary’s Single-Parent Center, highlighted in an interview with the country’s leading newspaper, Magyar Nemzet, that nearly 36% of single parents live in financial hardship. With women constituting 81% of these single-parent households, this tax break provides a vital lifeline. Nagy also noted that approximately 26% of single-parent families are raising two children, while 8% are raising three or more.

“If we look at it, we are talking about nearly 100,000 families affected by this measure, and accordingly the living conditions of more than 100,000 children could improve in the coming years,” Nagy told the paper.

With Hungary taking this proactive step, it could potentially spark similar actions from other governments seeking solutions to the continent’s population crisis.

Days earlier, the Fidesz parliamentary group submitted an amendment to the Fundamental Law, which aims to reinforce Hungary’s core values. The key changes focus on protecting the family unit and Hungary’s historical national identity, prioritizing the well-being of children, and strengthening national security measures.

“Our goal is to preserve Hungary’s fundamental values for future generations. Forward, Hungary!” the parliamentary group stated.
