Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked President Donald Trump on Thursday for “paying attention to the Ukraine settlement.’
For years now President Trump insisted that if he were president the Russian invasion into Ukraine would have never started and that he would be able to solve a peace agreement with the two countries.
Speaking to the press earlier today after a meeting with Belarusian President Lukashenko, Putin shocked geopolitical analysts with his acceptance of the ceasefire plan.
The Telegraph reported:
“Vladimir Putin has agreed to a US plan for a short-term ceasefire, but with specific conditions.
The Russian president said: ‘We agree with the proposals for the ceasefire, but our position is based on the assumption the ceasefire will lead to a long-term peace’.”
President Putin also thanked President Trump for paying attention to the Ukraine settlement and seeking peace in the region.
Vlad Putin: First of all I’d like to start with words of gratitude to the President of the United States, Mr. Trump, for paying so much attention to the Ukraine settlement. All of us have a lot on out plate but many state leaders, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Republic, the Prime Minister of India, the President of Brazil, and South African Republic, all pay a lot of attention and devote a lot of time to this issue and we’re thankful. And we’re all thankful to them because it’s all aimed at the noble cause of stopping hostilities and stopping human casualties.
