Democrat Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona repeatedly ripped into Elon Musk in comments to reporters on Monday after Musk called Kelly a “traitor” over his weekend trip to Ukraine to undermine President Donald Trump’s efforts to end Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Kelly spoke to a pen and pad briefing in the Senate press gallery and also appeared on the BBC and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow show where he trashed Musk as having taken an oath to billionaires, his own checkbook and to “ruining the lives of veterans,” while in contrast he, Mark Kelly, had taken an oath to defend the Constitution as a Navy aviator and later serving as a Space Shuttle pilot.
Kelly also belittled Musk, the world’s richest man whose various high tech ventures are revolutionizing society, as “not a serious guy.”
Several dozen reporters gathered for Kelly, who was sporting the Zelenskyy look.
NBC’s Frank Thorp reported from the briefing, “Sen KELLY responds to this, calling Musk “not a serious guy”. “I’ve sworn an oath to this country, I’ve flown in combat, I served in the Navy for 25 years. It appears to me, the oath that @elonmusk stands by is the oath to billionaires to make their lives easier, not the American people, not veterans.” “He’s not a serious guy. He should go back to building rockets,” Sen Kelly says.”

“Kelly: I served in the United States Navy for 25 years. I spent 15 years at NASA, risking my life flying the space shuttle. And the only oath I can think of that maybe Elon Musk has sworn is an oath to his own checking account, to his pocketbook—an oath, maybe, to ruining the lives of veterans. I had veterans in my office last week who, after really good performance reports, found out that Elon Musk fired them for poor performance. He has ruined these people’s lives. They were serving our country again in very valuable roles, and they did not deserve to get fired by an email from an unelected billionaire”
Kelly posted, “When I was 22 years old, I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. The only oath Elon Musk seems to have made is to his billionaire buddies and his own bank account.’

At the end of the Maddow interview Kelly falsely accused Musk of wanting to cut healthcare for children and seniors to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
