I love it when a plan comes together!
President Trump is a friend of mine. I send my columns and advice to President Trump on a regular basis. And I’m honored to report he listens. It pays to have a friend who is the most powerful man in the world.
I am so proud to report it has happened again- this time for one of the greatest sports stars in the history of America.
I was lucky enough to meet and become friends with Pete Rose in the last years of his life here in Las Vegas.
For those not over the age of 50, let me explain the greatness of Pete Rose, the winner!
Pete was known as “Charlie Hustle” and “The Hit King.” He had the most hits in baseball history. He won three world series- in 1975 he was the World Series MVP. He won the NL MVP, three batting titles and Rookie of the Year. He was a 17-time All Star- more than any other player in baseball history.
Remarkably, his team won 16 of those 17 All Star games!
Most importantly, he was the biggest winner in the history of sports! Pete participated in the most wins of any player, in any sport, in the history of America.
In 1999 Pete was named to the Baseball All-Century team!
Pete belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Induction into the HOF should be based on one thing- your performance on the field. Based on that, Pete Rose should be the first member of the Hall of Fame any fan sees when walking into Cooperstown. Pete Rose is baseball.
So, about a month ago I decided to make my pitch to President Trump. I sent the following letter to the President…
President Trump,
A suggestion for you that I know will be a popular winner for you!
You should issue a federal pardon posthumously for Pete Rose.
To pave the way for his entry into the Hall of Fame…
Finally!
He was my personal friend here in Las Vegas.
And a business partner of mine…
And appeared in TV ads with me.
Most American sports fans over age 50 love him and think it’s a great injustice that he’s not in the Hall of Fame.
Your pardon would reignite the debate and bring attention to his cause.
The baseball superstar known as “Charlie Hustle” and “the Hit King” belongs in the Hall of Fame.
He personified “the American spirit” with his hustle…and aggressive playing style…and desire for winning.
And Pete deserves to have his name cleared with a pardon. His only federal crime was income tax evasion. And Pete is very popular with not just average Americans, and baseball fans, but with your MAGA voters.
This is a win-win.
And I know you love winning!

After writing that letter, I talked to my great friend Bill Cunningham, the conservative radio talk show legend, from Cincinnati, Ohio. Bill was close friends with Pete. He said the whole Ohio is behind Pete.
We agreed if President Trump didn’t respond quickly with a pledge to pardon Pete, we would start a national petition to bring attention to the cause. And together, we’d lobby President Trump.
Then at dinner with friends last night in Las Vegas, a close friend of mine from Ohio- I call him Colonel Joe (a retired military intelligence officer)- urged me in a text to speak to President Trump about pardoning Pete Rose. Joe loved Pete.
So, at that moment last night, I was inspired to send a text to my friend President Donald J. Trump.
I reminded President Trump that this is the perfect time- with Spring Training starting and opening day of Baseball only a month away.
And I reminded the President that America loves Pete Rose. Most baseball fans want him in the Hall of Fame. A pardon by the President of the United States would go a long way to getting the attention of America and the Hall of Fame decision-makers.
Minutes after my text last night, President Trump announced he will soon pardon Pete Rose.
I hope the President signs the pardon on opening day of the Cincinnati Reds – Thursday March 27th against the San Francisco Giants at The Great American Ball Park.
Pete Rose is a great American. His aggressive, in-your-face style of play, and give-everything-you-got hustle, and winning-is-everything mindset, are what America is all about.
We are blessed with a President who is one of the greatest persons to ever occupy that powerful office. Because he listens to the people. He cares what average Americans think. He wants to reward All-American greatness. He has common sense. And he’s all about winning for America.
I am so proud to say I’m one of those Americans he listens to.
