As he has done in prior years, one of Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-KY) first moves at the start of a new legislative session is the reintroduction of HR 24, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2025.
The bill, also known as “Audit the Fed,” would require the Comptroller General to conduct a full examination of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Reserve Banks.
As the DOGE team continues to expose wasteful and borderline criminal expenditures at a time when Americans are in desperate need and the deficit continues to grow, this year, Massie might finally capture the interest and allegiance of other House members.
When he introduced the bill in January, Massie shared,”The American public deserves more insight into the practices of the Federal Reserve.”
“Behind closed doors, the Fed crafts monetary policies that devalue our currency, slow economic growth, and make life harder for the poor and middle class. The American people benefit when we work to increase government transparency.”
The cause to audit the Fed was long-championed by former Representative Ron Paul (R-TX), who originally introduced “Audit the Fed” legislation in 2009.
Massie recently spoke about the importance of HR24.
“I love to talk about it. The bill to audit the Federal Reserve is HR 24. Every year, I have to rush to the well of the House on the first day of Congress to introduce the Audit to Fed bill so that I can get that HR 24. It comes up very early. You can imagine with 435 congressmen, everybody’s got a bill they want to put in on the first day.”
“That would require a complete and total transparent audit of the Federal Reserve. That bill has passed the House, and it’s gone to the Senate, but in the past, not this Congress, it hasn’t passed the House. But there should be no problem to pass the House, this Congress.”
“The thing is, when it gets to the Senate, you’ve got some senators over there. I’ll just give you his initials, Bernie Sanders, who, when he was in the House, supported an audit of the Fed.”
“Then when he got to the Senate, he’s like, Well, I don’t know about auditing the Fed. It’s a little harder to get it through the Senate, but we should at least… This is one of those bills that we should be doing in the first hundred days and putting it over there because it’s completely in line with DOGE and some of the President’s priorities and just transparency to begin with.”
“I’m also going to introduce another bill just to completely end the Federal Reserve because that would be my preference. I just probably can’t get that bill passed through the House yet.”
